What Items Do Junk Removal Companies Take?
And What Can’t They Take?
One of the most common questions we hear is:
“Do you take this?”
In almost every case, the answer is YES — couches, appliances, construction debris, yard waste, and everything in between.
But there are a few things we legally can’t take, and it’s not because we don’t want to… it’s because state and county rules won’t allow it.
Let’s break it down clearly.
Items We Do Take
We handle almost anything that isn’t hazardous. That includes:
Household Items
- Furniture (couches, chairs, tables, mattresses)
- Décor and home goods
- TVs, electronics, and small appliances
- TVs, electronics, and small appliances
Large Appliances
- Refrigerators
- Freezers
- Washers & dryers
- Ovens and microwaves
- AC units
Outdoor & Garage
- Tools
- Lawn equipment
- Grills
- Bicycles and sports equipment
- Patio sets
Construction Debris
- Lumber
- Drywall
- Cabinets
- Flooring
- Carpet
- Tile and remodel debris
Yard Waste
- Branches and brush
- Shrubs
- Leaves
- Dirt (not mixed with debris)
Full Cleanouts
We specialize in:
- Estate cleanouts
- Hoarder situations
- Senior downsizing
- Foreclosure and eviction cleanouts
If it’s non-hazardous, we can help.
Items We Cannot Take (and Why)
Even though we take almost everything, the law requires that certain materials be handled by county-approved hazardous waste facilities.
Here’s what we don’t pick up:
Chemicals
Including:
- Cleaners
- Solvents
- Pesticides
- Pool chemicals
- Automotive fluids
Why?
Landfills and transfer stations legally will not accept them, and hauling hazardous waste requires special certification.
Paint (wet or partially full)
This includes:
- Latex paint
- Oil-based paint
- Stains
- Varnishes
Why?
Paint is considered hazardous until it’s fully dried.
Counties handle this for free, so there’s no reason to pay anyone to haul it.
Good news: Your county will accept paint and chemicals for free. We can even tell you exactly where to take them.
Fuel-Based Items With Gas or Oil Still Inside
Like:
- Lawn mowers
- Snow blowers
- Chainsaws
- Gas cans
If the fuel is completely drained, we can take them.
Hazardous or Biohazard Materials
Such as:
- Medical waste
- Needles
- Lab chemicals
- Asbestos
- Mold professionally marked as hazardous
These require county or specialized removal programs.
