Giving Back Where It Matters: 2025 Senior Clean-Out Day

At Hauling It Away, we’ve always said we’re more than just a junk removal company. We’re neighbors. We live here, raise our kids here, and do our best to be part of what makes this community great. We get to drive through these streets every day — past the same parks, corner stores, and front porches where life happens — and it’s not lost on us how lucky we are to do what we do in a place like this.

That’s why, for the third year in a row, we’re offering free junk removal for seniors in Hudson, Woodbury, and Stillwater on Monday, April 21st. It’s part of our annual Senior Clean-Out Day, and it’s open to the first 10 seniors who schedule a pickup valued at $150 or less.

No catch. No gimmicks. Just an opportunity to help.

Why We Keep Doing This
Over the years, we’ve worked with so many incredible people. But some of the most meaningful jobs have been the ones where a little extra care was needed — helping an older resident sort through a basement full of memories, or loading up a garage of items too heavy to move alone. These moments stay with us. Because for a lot of seniors, something as simple as “getting rid of junk” isn’t so simple.

Sometimes it’s the physical effort that makes it hard. Sometimes it’s not knowing who to trust or how to afford the service. And sometimes, the emotional weight of parting with decades of belongings is heavier than the items themselves.

We’ve seen it. We’ve felt it. And that’s what sparked the first Senior Clean-Out Day a few years ago — a simple idea that’s grown into something we now look forward to each spring.

More Than Just One Day
While Senior Clean-Out Day is something we’ve made a tradition, it’s not the only time we’ve stepped in to serve where we can. Over the years, we’ve had the chance to be part of multiple community-focused events — from helping local nonprofits with clean-ups to volunteering our services for families in tough situations. We don’t share this to brag — in fact, we usually don’t talk about it publicly at all — but rather to let people know that when we say we care about this community, we mean it.

Giving back isn’t about getting attention. It’s just about showing up, using what we have to help where we can, and being good neighbors.

What This Day Means to Us
We all reach a point where giving back becomes more than just a nice idea — it becomes a responsibility. As a small business, we owe our growth and success to the people who have supported us: our customers, our families, and our local towns. Giving back isn’t about checking a box. It’s about reflecting the values that made us want to serve in the first place.

We also hope this day serves as a reminder of the power of small gestures. Not every act of service has to be grand to be meaningful. For some of the seniors we’re helping, getting rid of a broken treadmill or a stack of old boxes might open up space for something new — a safer home, a clearer mind, or just less to worry about. That’s worth it.

How It Works
Senior Clean-Out Day will take place on Monday, April 21st, and we’re currently taking signups for the first 10 pickups in Stillwater, Hudson, and Woodbury. The only requirement is that the load value is $150 or less — think a couch or two, some boxes from the garage, or a pile of old furniture and odds and ends. We’ll come by, haul it out, and make sure it’s either properly recycled or responsibly disposed of.
